k for us to work towards making the world a better place for all. Creating
Our Future is a NFP community exhibition with each artwork representing o
ne of the 17 SDGs.
\nThe exhibition opening night\, on Friday 22nd F
ebruary 2019\, is expected to be an exciting and large event.

ers of the inaugural awards announced on Opening Night. Come meet the arti
sts and share your stories!
\nLive music\, drinks\, and canapes will
be provided.
\nIf you are unable to make the Opening Night event or
would like to support the exhibition more\, you can make a donation here. It doesn’t matter how much you can donate. Every
bit will make a difference to us being able to run the project.

es”. His insights into the origins of violence are sheer gift to our moder
n world.\nThis course will be an exploration of some of his thought\, with
personal and global application. It will investigate aspects of human imi
tation which show how we are all interdependent. The consequent realities
of rivalry\, scapegoating\, sacrifice and violence will be explored using
Girard’s work in various disciplines\, including literature.\nParticular a
ttention will be given to the Gospels\, the discovery of which changed Gir
ard’s life. The course will offer opportunities to apply his insights to v
arious parts of the scriptures\, particularly to the passion and resurrect
ion of Christ. As a result of the Christ event\, there is underway an evol
ution of human consciousness\, which involves a slow but relentless growth
in understanding the nonviolence of God. Girard recognised in this the ca

etween the US and China in our region with the US practising to invade isl
ands in the South China sea using its new Expeditionary Advanced Base Oper
ations (EABO). The US Marines claim this strategy will be difficult for Ch
ina to counter. Recently the US practised this strategy by “capturing an i
sland le Shima off the coast of Okinawa. By designing the US-Australia Tal
isman Sabre war exercises this year (11-24th July) to further practice thi
s strategy off/on the coast of Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef area\
, the US is drawing Australia into its hostile intentions aimed at China.
The HMAS Adelaide and Canberra have been fitted out to support amphibious
landing operations and in recent exercises\, US marines have been imbeded
on these Australian naval ships. In addition\, the US has increased its co
ntingent of US marines in Darwin this year to 2\,500. We don’t want Austra
lia drawn into another US war.\nThe future looks ominious. This issue will
be addressed at the conference together with IPAN’s National Campaign to
end the stationing of US troops in Darwin.\nIn addition\, the conference

lleries\nAssociation Victoria (PGAV).\nHiromi Ikeda\nHiromi Ikeda is a Soc
ial Work post-graduate student at the University of Melbourne but grew up
in the city of Kure\, which is about 25 km away from Hiroshima city. She i
s a third generation Hibakusha- the name given to those people affected by
nuclear bombings. . Her great grandfather and grandfather on her mother’s
side were victims of the nuclear bomb\, although her grandfather survived
until the age of 70. Her grandmother on her father’s side\, who passed aw
ay early this year\, often recalled seeing the cloud of the bomb beyond mo
untains.\n

lear bombings. . Her great grandfather and grandfather on her mother’s sid
e were victims of the nuclear bomb\, although her grandfather survived unt
il the age of 70. Her grandmother on her father’s side\, who passed away e
