Galipoli Centenary Peace Campaign (GCPC) invites the public to an Anzac Day Reflection on Wednesday 25 April 2018 between 10.00am and 11.00am in Richardson’s Lookout – Marrickville Peace Park (cnr Richards Avenue & Holt Crescent in Marrickville 2204).

GCPC was formed to confront many of the misconceptions about Australia’s war experience, especially those associated with the Anzac legend. We reject the view that the nation was born at Gallipoli, that our national identity was established in war time and that our national values are military values.

Come along to the event to:

  • Respect victims of war including those who died in battle and those who were maimed physically and psychologically during WW1 and in other wars;
  • Give recognition to the Frontier Wars, Australia’s first war involving a series of violent engagements and massacres of Indigenous people resulting in the dispossession of their land;
  • Reflect on the myth-making associated with the Anzac legend.

Speakers will include John Butcher (GCPC), Jennifer Newman (local Wiradjuri resident), Clr Colin Hesse (Inner West Council), Nick Deane (Marrickville Peace Group), Andy Kissane (writer and poet) and Jon Atkins (GCPC).
