On December 8, 2020, two days before International Human Rights Day on December 10,
Karapatan together with Rise Up for Life and for Rights,
Ecumenical Voice for Human Rights and Peace in the Philippines (EcuVoice),
the International Coalition on Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP)
and the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD)
will hold a webinar entitled
HUMAN RIGHTS EMERGENCY IN THE PHILIPPINES
This online event seeks to provide updates on the human rights situation in the Philippines,
particularly on extrajudicial killings and challenges to press freedom, civic and democratic space in the country,
and the continuing need to press for justice and accountability.
Speakers in the said event include
Commissioner Karen Gomez-Dumpit of the Commission on Human Rights,
Atty. Chel Diokno of the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG),
Nonoy Espina, Chairperson of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP)
and Cristina Palabay of Karapatan.
It will be held from at 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Philippine time) via Zoom and
it will be broadcasted live on Facebook pages of of the organizers.
