Dear friends,

Energy policy remains one of the most contentious areas of public debate in Australia. The recent IPCC report on climate change makes it clear we’re facing a looming environmental crisis. It is more urgent than ever that we find innovative ways of reshaping the way we generate and use our energy.

Despite a few encouraging signs, major obstacles stand in the way. Affordability, lack of political will, undue political influence from industry and other powerful interest groups, technological and economic barriers, not to mention out own attachment to the consumption of energy, all remain key points of public debate today.

With this in mind, Conversation at the Crossroads invites you to a unique two-part Zoom online event on Australia’s Energy Future.

Thursday 30 September, 7.00 pm-8.15pm: an information session on Australia’s energy future

Thursday 7 October, 7.00 pm-8.15pm: a strategy session involving small-group discussions.

We ask those who register to do so, if possible, for both sessions. The second session will be more productive if everyone has attended the first.

The first session on 30 September will focus on the current state of play and the obstacles that stand in the way of change. Our two highly knowledgeable speakers will be:

  • Tony Wood,Director, Energy Program at the Grattan Institute
  • Mark Wakeham, Policy Advisor on Climate, Energy and Just Transitions, Australian Council of Trade Unions

The strategy session on 7 October will ask us to reflect on what we learned the previous week, and engage in small-group discussion, where ideas for future strategic action can be formed.

The aim of the event is to formulate a set of achievable goals and strategies that we can carry out individually and collectively. We also hope that these discussions will stimulate ongoing networks for consultation, coordination, and action.

Pleasesee attached flyer and share this invitation with others.                                                 You can registerhere
