Land Day presents an opportunity to mark a past event, but also to think about Palestinian resilience and hope in the face of continued Israeli land theft.
Palestinian Land Day, March 30, is a commemoration by Palestinians around the world of an Israeli massacre of indigenous Palestinians who possessed Israeli citizenship and were peacefully protesting the expropriation of their land on 30 March 1976.
In response to further planned Israeli land expropriations, in 1976, a general strike and peaceful marches took place in Palestinian towns throughout Israel on 30 March. The Israeli military and police responded violently in the Galilee, where Israel had imposed curfews on several villages. Israel killed 6 unarmed protestors, wounded around 100 and arrested hundreds more.
